Last minute holiday cottage booked, now found out the description differs with additional costs.

Not sure if I have any rights regarding the situation below:

I booked a holiday home in Yorkshire a couple of days back to start this Saturday. Payment was made by CC in full due to the short timescale. The online agent I booked through stated Gas charges were fully included and there was off road parking outside the property. The welcome pack emailed from the owner says Gas is on a meter which we must pay for, and parking is via a private carpark 200 metres away at £25 per week (no off-road parking exists).

My budget was based on the booking agent’s description which has significantly increased.

Suggestions welcome?

  • Surely a car park is off road parking?
  • You can cancel on the basis that the gas charges don't meet the description.  The car parking is not so straightforward, because there is off-road parking outside the property, and they can't be responsible for any charging regime that might apply (the description didn't specify free parking, I assume?)

Realistically, gas charges for a short period (a week?) are likely to be minimal, so is it really worth cancelling on that basis?

As the gas is not fully included then yes you can cancel, although this will only be about £20 surely?

I would assume "parking OUTSIDE the property" to not be 200m away, and the term "off-road" implies that it has some sort of drive way or area belonging to the property. A car park would certainly not be "off-road" parking, as it would be "car park" parking.

I would cancel and book something else. We only ever book rentals that have off-road parking at the property.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    Thanks all.

Yes, parking was described as free and directly outside the property.  However, I've just managed to cancel as we have a disabled person with us in a wheelchair plus a range of medical paraphernalia to move from the car. So very glad I asked on here !

What can't be known by the OP at this point is if the error in description is down to the agent not updating information, or new information not being provided to the agent by the owner.  We rented a property in Scotland in June and due to Covid restrictions there was no information in the property about how to operate the cooker, dishwasher etc.  We were provided with electronic versions, but they were not for equipment in the property.  Who was responsible for the error we don't know.
Thankfully the OP discovered the issues prior to travel and managed to get a refund.  We were fortunate that I managed to find accurate instructions for the dishwasher on line, and the cooker was the same make as we have at home.
