Moving during the energy crisis
Hi we have just moved in to a new home and our previous supplier doesn't serve this area. The previous owners were on a dual tariff from British Gas. Their standard variable rate is extremely high. Looking elsewhere it seems companies such as Octopus are a lot cheaper. However all the advice is not to switch during the current crisis. I'm just a little confused at what the process is and the best next steps to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must register with BG as you are on a deemed contract with them . Register then free to move .

You're unlikely to be able to move to Octopus at the moment anyway - they are no longer even giving quotes via their website and it is suggested that they aren't taking new customers on presently.
If what you were thinking of was to move suppliers and then go to a fix, at the moment that's an idea that will cost you an awful lot of money, there are simply no "cheap" fixes about any more.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Literally just moved to them at lunchtime today, and requested to be put on the SVR tariff, you have to phone them up though.EssexHebridean said:You're unlikely to be able to move to Octopus at the moment anyway - they are no longer even giving quotes via their website and it is suggested that they aren't taking new customers on presently.
