Mysterious deposit

I received a deposit into my RBS Current account but have no idea who its from. RBS were only able to tell me what bank it came from but not who. Instead of a name the deposit has a long 11 digit reference number. Im not expecting it, family and friends have not sent me anything so im left clueless. How do i find out who its from?

Keep it to one side in case its an error and needs repaying.

It would help others if you put the amount & ref no. People may have come across it before.

I wouldn't post the reference number, unless your certain it doesn't contain any sensitive information.

Just wait a few days and see whether an explanation arrives in the post. It's often how these stories go.
