Can't seem to find  much up to date information.

Has anyone recently visited Gran Canaria?

Is it currently still Level One?  ( I understand that they review every week and things could change.)

Please could you share your experiences re any restrictions currently in place?

Am particularly interested in mandatory mask wearing.

Many thanks.

  • I am here now.

Everything is still open until 2am, dunno what level that relates to though.

Airport was easy, asked to see my Spanish form, had no interest in any of my NHS print outs.

Masks around the hotel although i am not doing outdoors (and so are loads of others), and once out of view of the lobby it usually comea off on the walk to the room. No need to wear one whilst walking around the streets too.

If you are going to Maspalomas/PdI they seem to have removed all the sunbeds from the beaches.

The official information about which islands are in which level, and what that signifies, is published at https://www.hellocanaryislands.com/safety-measures/, which confirms that all the Canary Islands are in level one this week (22nd to 28th).

Just back from Tenerife. Very strict on mask wearing in shops and on public transport but otherwise virtually back to normal apart from a ban on dancing in bars.

Just make sure that you carry a mask wherever you go in case you need to pop one on.

Yeah - I returned from Tenerife last week and was told off twice for not wearing a mask (once on a bus, another in the hotel lobby).

Very few people wearing them out and about in the streets - just put them on when going to toilet in bars, or entering shops..

Airport was fine - was a row of desks just beyond passport control where they scanned my Spanish Passenger Locator form.

One thing that surprised me was the number of places that are cash only. I've only used cash once in the UK since the start of the pandemic as all businesses were encouraged to go contactless (I've made the switch and can't see myself ever using a UK cashpoint again). Cue me trying to find a cashpoint that wasn't charging 3 or 6 Euro for a 20 withdrawal! March Bank - thank you, you had zero charges.

I'm heading back early December will be curious to see if anything has changed.

A lot of smaller bars and restaurants are cash only to make their tax returns err..."simpler". That's how they can afford to sell beer at €1.50 a pint.   I haven't used cash in the UK for the last 2 years so it made a change going back to it. At least it made it easier to keep track of how much you were spending on beer.

I never found a fee-free ATM but will make a note of "March Bank" for next time.  Most were €3.95 so it made sense to get out a big enough amount so that you were only charged once then only take out what you needed for the day with the rest left in the hotel/apartment.
  • I went to Gran Canaria (Puerto Rico) a few weeks ago.

Masks were mandatory in shops. They wouldn’t let you in without one. My hotel also enforced masks when you were walking around. It was nice to see everyone being respectful of the mask rules!

For me (solo traveller, not going on holiday to party) it felt completely normal with no obvious restrictions other than masks.

I had a lovely time and it was much less stress with all the extra paperwork that I had expected.
