johnmann said:My electricity supplier (through the cheap energy club) So Energy have emailed asking me to renew my contract so that there are "no nasty surprises". If I don't renew I go onto a variable tariff. The advice from Martin however is "do nothing". Which is best?"do nothing" go onto a variable tariff will be a lot cheaper for winter months + have option leading up to Winter 2022 to shop around without facing exit fees .Octopus are giving same advice to customers of other suppliers

Do not renew.
Do NOTHING

Octopus aren't even giving quotes through their website now - just two big warning screens that you should go to a variable price-capped tariff and then an option to call (or possibly email) for a quote. Full marks to them for honesty, at least, particularly in the light of some suppliers still trying to sell sneaky fixes.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Every new customer would cost Octopus money, so they have decided not to take anymore on.
Energy companies will be losing a lot of money just now and will expect to recoup those losses come the new price cap in April, which I suspect will be horrendous.0
