Just subscribed to Amazon but, after about 2 hours searching, tweeking & calling friends, discovered I can't get the App on my Smart TV unless I've got a v6 (I think that's what it's called) box.
I've been with Virgin for years and years, have no landline and only watch the basic TV but I pay £55 a month which is, effectively, for broadband (because I want to keep my email address, blueyonder)
Can anyone suggest any wily ways of getting a free upgrade to this new box?
Thanks

Amazon Prime on your TV (set) is nothing to do with Virgin. Upgrading to a V6 box doesn't change this. Prime is not supported on Virgin TIVO but it is available on the V6.If the TV is already Smart it will probably already have Prime on it, its been a feature of Smart TVs since about 2014, some going back to 2012.If you want an upgrade contact Virgin. It will probably involve a new contract.1

Hi, thanks for reply. TBH I said TV was a Smart TV but maybe it isn't as it doesn't have the Prime App on it. I just wondered if anyone knew how I could get around paying a fee (new contract) with Virgin as I'm actually not interested in getting any new channels, just need the ability to watch Prime on my TV.0

You could just get your Broadband from Virgin (or anyone else) and ditch the TV box entirely. Buy something like a Chromecast with Google TV, or, a Roku stick quite cheaply and put it into your TV to give it all you need.

Yon need to wean yourself off any email address wedded to your broadband provider otherwise you will always be tied to them and held to ransom
Looks like you're overpaying for your broadband by a large amount
So might as well make the break now as later
and just get a FireStick1 -
Virgin BB @ 100mb - Free Mixit TV with a Tivo box - Free telephone and calls 24/7 = £42.00 per month - got a mate same deal @ £35 month so yes you are overpaying. Actually I rarely use the TV as I have a Satelite Dish

Thanks guys, will investigate all your recommendations later.0

Cheap and neat way is probably going to be an Amazon FireStick bought during the upcoming sale at perhaps half of usual price. Can be a 4k model or not, your choice.
Some of the FireSticks have the option of adding an Amazon wired network adapter. That'll perform a bit better than wifi if the cabling is viable for you. It's how I have mine connected. Also likely to shift a lot of data off the wifi an onto wired, improving local wifi performance due to less competition for the bandwidth.0 -
Oh Lordy! Partner (who doesn't own a TV!) would like to watch the new Beatles documentary which is only being released on Disney + Can anyone suggest what I should do to access both?
I'm now beginning to turn into my dad, who couldn't get to grips with how to use the video.0 -
Disney plus also on Firestick1

Disney+ is not free either. £80 a year.Firestick is easy option. Prime, Netflix, Disney+, more apps than you probably know what to do with, more on-demand content than you can probably watch in your lifetime...1
