Car Electrical Fault

Hi,

Bought a renault captur in August from a seller under "aa promise" which states they need to follow consumer law 2015.

Initially had problems with brakes within a couple days which involved the car shaking due to warped brake discs. This was all repaired.

Recently check airbag light has come on with a spanner on dash.  Phoned seller up but told that wouldn't be covered under warranty as it is classed as an electrical fault.

Looked through consumer law, but struggling to make sense of it. Would it be covered under consumer law given it's less than 6 months or would it fall under normal wear and tear? Almost wondering if the car shaking loosened something..

What do the written terms of the warranty state is included or excluded?

OR, do you mean there is no used-car warranty on this car?  I am not sure that I understand the references to following consumer law - that is clearly the very lowest that should be met , not a benchmark of excellence.

What is rthis so called seller ??
Private  ,  second hand  forecourt , main dealer  .
AA promise what does that actually mean   , it has an AA warranty or just Del speak .
  • Sorry. To be clear, their warranty doesn't include it as it falls under "electrical faults" and they will only cover engine or brake repairs.

I was asking if consumer law would be another avenue to explore to try and get something sorted.

After experiencing some mess about with the brakes (they put new brake pads on warped brake discs and passed it on MOT) I am trying not to get anymore ripped off than I probably already have. So if there's a chance they can cover the costs of the airbag fault then I would like to pursue it.

I guess they would technically be counted as a second hand forecourt. Aa promise was just a guarantee of needing to have mot and that they follow consumer law act 2015.

My question is, would that act cover said "electrical fault"?

Not a "consumer rights" solution, but in Renaults this is often a loose connection under the passenger's seat.
Disconnect, clean if necessary, and reconnect, and see if the fault clears.

  • Bought the car in August this year, it's 2015, used so expected some issues. Just trying to work out if consumer law covers the issue as it says within 6 months of buying a used car.......Bradden said:

Thank you, exactly answer I needed. Will try that and if not will probably have to pay to get it fixed

    AA's website says:

It's basically the AA's Commandments of Gold Standard customer service - making sure you get looked after both before and after sale to create peace of mind and a stress-free experience.

What is the promise? The dealer will......
    • Provide a minimum of 6 months MOT on all vehicles
    • Allow you to test drive any vehicle
    • Welcome any vehicle inspection before you buy
    • Make sure every vehicle is in good condition
    • Provide V5 registration and service records where available
    • Work closely with you and the AA Cars team to help with any issues
    • Honour their obligations under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to protect your purchase
Not very much in my opinion

Only 6 months MOT!! You would expect a 12 month MOT surely. A dealer which sells a vehicle without new MOT suggests no faith in that vehicle and consequently I would have no faith in that dealer
