Sold an item on ebay, for the first time in yonks, since the Spring I think. Its only for a Tenner or so and what I normally do in the last couple of years is use RM Click and Drop. Print the label off and then drop it in the box. Then when back home click the "item dispatched" box.
From looking hard last night, I cant see that box anymore, unless you use ebays" buy a printed label" service, for 66 p. I should coco ! I might just take it to the P O, abit further than my nearest box and get conformation of dispatch that way. But it just seems to be ebay are being a pain in the rear end again ? Anyway, still packing the items, see if you folks have had the same experience.

If you want to be able to claim compensation from Royal Mail you will need to get proof of posting from somewhere rather than just dropping in the post box.
Ticking the box on eBay makes no difference to proof of postage from Royal Mail, it just informs the buyer that its on its way.1 -

Incidentally , Ebay Rm postage can be marginally cheaper than the PO , the 66p you quote is a standard 2nd class letter so if that is the size of the items you are posting you would pay the same whether you send via a PO or via ebay postage. Parcels are cheaper on ebay , standard 2nd class small parcel at the Post Office is £3.20 whereas it is only £3 from ebay.
Just remember as well that should an item get lost you would need proof of posting to claim from RM, so dropping stuff in a post box means you are sending with no insurance. The PO will issue POP when you buy postage from them and on ebay you can use a POP pad which PO will stamp for you as a receipt if you take your post there. However, it is a perfectly acceptable business model to save time and just drop in a Post box if that doesn’t worry you, I often do the same for my very cheap items if I can’t get to the mail centre.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. for me printing a label at home is so much easier and it's cheaper. but anyway, there is still the option to mark it as dispatched as sometimes I end up using another courier and I do use it...
can't see why anybody would want to write out a label by hand, then go and stand at the post office counter and have it weighed, measured and get interrogated about the parcel contents and then have to pick a service, and then pay even more for it!0 -
Right, dont think I explained it too well earlier.I'm sure ebay have changed something since early Summer. Then,I printed off my label via Royal Mail, click and drop.As my few items this year were only for a few quid each, spread over several months. I just dropped em in the post box came home and clicked "item sent". and took the risk of it getting lost.! I cant seem to do that now !
I presumed, perhaps wrongly, that 66p.was for the privilege of letting ebay print my label. Then added to that another £3.20 for posting. Anyway today,(also not sure about the ink situation in my printer LOL) I did take it to the PO,didnt queue too long, payed £3.20 rather than 3 quid,as mentioned above and they didnt ask me what was in it either, thats a first ,in recent years and I do now have a cert of posting, for about 10 quids worth.
And the up shot is,I still cant tell the recipient its on its way , I'll send him a note........................Anyway,sorry for the long rambling entry....................
PS, "I should cocoa" is a polite way of saying if u think I'm gonna do that, your nuts !0 -
Update..... Ref Soollin " However, it is a perfectly acceptable business model to save time and just drop in a Post box if that doesn’t worry you, I often do the same for my very cheap items if I can’t get to the mail centre. "
Thats exactly what I used to do,with my 3-4 quid items Print, pop in box, come back mark as dispatched but I can seem to do that now, Grrrrrrrrrrr PS this is a shorter version of the post above, !0 -
Seller Hub > Awaiting Dispatch > to the left of the order, drop down box > mark as dispatched.
You can set up an account with RM C&D which will pull your orders through to it. Address and item details are attached, you purchase the label, then mark it as dispatched. The interface talks back to eBay and auto-marks it as dispatched.1 -

Right, thanks soolin,I now see as that the 66p (as someone else mentioned) is just a flat letter rate. and that after a bit more digging around, see it would have been 3 quid if I used ebays service. What stirred me up is that compared with a few months back, you had 4 boxes. 1,you have been paid, tick. 2 leave feedback, tick. 3 dispatch item, tick and finally feedback received, sometimes not ticked as the buyer didnt bother. Now,its 3 boxes, 1,you have been paid, tick, 2 item dispatched, cant tick and 3 item delivered..............
I'll have another go,re your suggestion,see how I get on....................................0 -
Finally found the box u were on about, added the Ref number, dont think its a tracking one,but ebay seemed to like it and its now marked as "Dispatched" only two days after I sent it. Thanks soolin..................stuupid blooody ebay !0
