Tiny onions question

Options
My father gave us some red onion babies he grew from seed for our Allotment. We planted them, and then promptly forgot they were there. It's been a heavy year for various reasons and the Allotment hasn't had the love it usually would.

Last time we were there I spotted a pile of half buried tiny red onions, maybe just bigger than a shallot. The green tips were gone completely, just the little onions left.

I've bought them home, do you think they'd be ok to cook with?

Yes, may be fiddly to prepare but if it tastes like an onion & looks like an onion then it'll be OK for the pot

I expect competition from weeds etc just kept them on the small side. I had similar with garlic, but no excuse for it!

I am, and now very jealous of a blur! (he died before I was born, kind of ruins the chance of any gigs 😭)

I used mine in salads and you could really taste the difference.
Or you can save them to plant as sets now or next spring.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Not sure they would work as sets, aren't sets heat treated to stop growing and suspend growing until planted again?

These are just small onions which I think would just run too seed come next Spring

  • Used to make last night's dinner, tastes fine and we aten't dead so tiny onions are a win. I have a migraine but am fairly certain it's unrelated ☺️

I hope your headache is better times.
Farway I've done it successfully before - and unsuccessfully. A lot depends on the weather you get.
