Cryptocurrency Vs Stocks and Shares - LOW BUDGET

Options
Hello all

I would like to get all Of your personal opinions on Stocks and Shares Vs cryptocurrency.

I am looking to start investing (Obviously after I do a LOT of research) in either but I don’t know which would be best for me ; I know before you say, only I can chose which is best for me but I would just like advice.

I would only have a small budget at first with around £10 per week investment.

I would just like to know would I be ok going into one more than the other with such a low budget? And if so why?

thanks !!!

Don't kid yourself that Crypto is investing, it's speculation or gambling. Don't confuse the two
Oh yes! 100% I know that.

I'd suggest spending time building up a worthwhile pot, during which you can do your research - investing or buying into crypto with such a small amount on a weekly basis isn't likely to be cost-effective, with transaction charges and so on.  Worth thinking about exactly what you're actually trying to achieve too, i.e. are you aiming to build a pot of a certain size for a particular purpose many years into the future, or just wanting to play about with something a bit more interesting than cash deposits?  Do you have an adequate emergency fund in cash form already, as your budget sounds highly constrained....

    Your OP suggests otherwise.

What are you trying to achieve, they both have different goals

It's really easy to start investing. With that amount, I don't think you'd get much cheaper than Vanguard (www.vanguardinvestor.co.uk).

Some good beginner resources are on monevator.com (https://www.google.com/search?q=monevator+beginner&oq=monevator+beginner&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i59.3048j0j7&client=ms-android-google&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8), YouTube channels like PensionCraft, I've also recently discovered though I don't use (I'm always looking for good beginner resources I can post in the forum) Damien Talks Money who is very beginner-friendly.

Crypto is not real investing, it's no different to gambling or a ponzi scheme and certainly not appropriate for a beginner.

    Thanks all for replying!!

the end goal is to Hopefuly sell either the shares or crypto in a couple years as I intend to make money that way. Obviously easier said than done, but I joke with what I invest/gamble in, the value of that increases and when it does, I would like to sell what I have!

Investing for a couple of years is an oxymoron. Why will you be selling, what do you want/need the money for?

Nothing better to learn from experience to become grounded.
  • Well, I don’t need the money. I guess I’ll just be investing in the hope to make money off it at some point. Which is of course why everyone does it.
I don’t need the money for anything !! - with that said, I guess I don’t really need to withdraw

but im just not sure on which to invest / put my money into either s&s or Cryptocurrency

With £10 I would suggest working through the baby steps.

    1. Save up £1,000
    2. Clear any high interest loans, credit cards, store cards, car finance etc.
    3. Then build up to at least 3-6 months worth of living expenses saved up.
    4. Then is a sensible time to start thinking about investing the rest.

    Extremely simplified example:

If you're thinking about investing £500 per year, after 10 years, if you average 4% growth which is a realistic expectation for a balanced/equity fund, you'll have around £6,000, and going off the 4% rule you could think about taking £240pa, or £20 a month income from this.

    Is this worth it?
