Inheritance tax

Hi there

The solicitors are the executors of my late dads will. We have had very little contact with the solicitors and they haven’t replied to our emails. We are concerned that the inheritance tax has still not been paid and if it isn’t paid by the end of next week,  HMRC can charge interest on the amount due. Will we be liable for the penalty charges or are the solicitors covered by indemnity insurance? I have been on their website and they do have indemnity insurance.

Thanks

  • The executors are responsible for paying IHT, and as professional executors they should compensate beneficiaries for any penalty payment caused by their incompetence.

Having said how do you know it’s not been paid if they are not responding to your emails, and are your sure that his estate will have to pay it?
