Possible asbestos tiles

I'm doing up a bedroom in an old terrace house and I took up some 30 year old carpet and underlay and found that part of the floor has 9x9 vinyl tiles. The rest is just the floorboards but as bits of black mastic over. It looks like someone removed most of the tiles but left a section. I know if you don't disturb them then they hold no danger but was wondering if carpeting companies would carpet over this or would they required the possible asbestos tiles removing first?

The adhesive used to fix these things down sometimes contained traces of asbestos too. As long as the tiles are not cracked & loose, they are safe to leave in place and covered over.A little unusual to find them in a bedroom. They were more often used in kitchens & bathrooms.

One of the commonly found (but often unexpected) uses of asbestos inside the home....

OP, the attitude towards asbestos varies from person to person and company to company.
Unless you get a sample of the tiles tested you won't know if they do contain asbestos. Personally I'd assume they do until proven otherwise.
The main issue with carpet fitting is if they need/want to use nail-down gripper. The nails may cause the tiles to shatter. So whether or not the tiles are potentially an issue will depend on where they are relative to the edge of the carpet, and what fitting method the carpet fitters intend to use.
