You are not new here so why not use the search function to turn up posts about them?
My impression from reading here for years isn't very positive, but without real posts as evidence it might be a faulty judgement.
For windows I use local firms that don't advertise nationally and make me pay for it.
    EDIT: There's loads!!!
  • Yes loads but no recent ones. Haven't posted here for a few years!

Same here. The likes of Anglian,  Zenith, Safestyle, and any other national outfit that uses puerile TV advertising or cold calling don't even make it to my "call for a quote" list. I go for the local independent firms, and have found a one man outfit to do my windows & doors. Whilst not the cheapest, he takes time and pays attention to the smaller details.
Noticed a job that another local outfit had done recently. Seeing the brickwork above one window "repointed" with expanding foam has put me right off even considering them for quotes. Always worth seeing someone fitting a window so that you can see the work progressing.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • stay local and go with someone you trust who would recommend them and had them fit their house . price around will make you understand the way people either sell or listen to what you want in your house , Learn from the ones with fitting knowledge and gather that info up . Go with your gut / don't overpay/ don't pay a huge deposit / half at most . materials are becoming hard at the moment so be prepared to wait for the right job . prices are going up so don't expect to pay what your  neighbour paid 2 years ago . have a ballpark in your head once you have people around . safestyle reps are scum and would sell their granny for commission
  • Thanks both, got messed about by a local company last year who gave us a price and an idea of timescale then having waited for them to confirm a date they cancelled their quote saying that they had forgotten to include the glazing!? and nearly doubled the quote.  Had too high a quote initially from safestyle then they rang us a few days later dropping over 3k from the original quote making them the best price, although they haven't included for additional lintel work, but only holding the renewed quote for a day - not sure I like those tactics and a bit concerned they will add on more to the price. However if the quality of the windows is as good as others then maybe worth taking the reduction offered?
  • How many other quotes did you have? I wouldn’t touch them with tactics like that, on principle if nothing else

    That is just nuts!!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Yes, so fed up as we were happy with original quote but how can you forget to include the glass!?? Just think they were realising people had saved holiday money to spend last year and were using it on home improvements so prices doubled! Problem with local companies is the timescale, would be looking at months rather than 2 or 3 weeks so may have to chance Safestyle for this reason.

Get quotes from several local; companies, who do local builders use? If you give an idea where you are someone may have local knowledge.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Dropping 3k then pressuring you with a day to make your mind up, I walk away from stuff like that.

One guy tried it in our old house when we called them in for a quote on the back door. We showed them the front door very quickly. He wasn't happy and tried to change his tune but too late. They knew the lower price was a fall back, saw our reaction to the higher price and knew we would not go for it when he saw our faces, and tried the old "call the manager for a lower one". Makes them look good doing you a favour. They would not be taking a loss on the lower price.

It is tricky to find a good one, we went with word of mouth and saw the work. Fortunate we now have two companies we can trust, both quotes were bang on par expected for a decent job (one firm makes the frames on their own premises locally), both left quotes with us and no pressure to decide. Both take payment on completion of work to our satisfaction and both installs were quick and professional (front door and patios doors). One had to come out for a snag 14 months later and it was no problem, and no charge.
