Car insurance - number of continuous years' claim-free driving

I am gathering quotes for car insurance.
I am currently insured on someone else's policy but because of a change of circumstances, I will be the policy holder. So I'll start without any No Claims Discount.
(However I will continue to be insured as a named driver on another, different policy for another seperate car.)
One of the questions asked is "Enter number of continuous years' claim-free driving".
I was involved in a no-fault accident, and it is now around the third anniversary of that incident. Can I therefore put down "3 years" as that's how long it was since it happened, or should I put "2 years" as the claims process obviously took a bit of time after the incident to be resolved (not helped by the fact that the at-fault party's insurance company was utterly hopeless!).
Thanks for any help.
Thanks for any help.

It's the date of the incident which is relevant (though I would be careful with "around the third anniversary" - it's only three years if the anniversary has actually passed by your renewal date).0

If in doubt about precise dates, err on the side of caution and say 2. Better that than have a claim only to be told you were 2 days short of 3 years so your policy has been cancelled.
