Solicitor/Conveyancer - recommended by Estate agent

It's worth asking whether the solicitor/conveyancer has any referral arrangement with the agents - the problems are where there is a payment for the referral, as it can mean that the solicitor would be less willing to -push back on any issues.
It's more of an issue where you are buying a newbuild and it's the developer recommending a solicitor or where the agents are pushing you to use their mortgage adviser / mortgage broker.
The solicitor I use is recommended by agents all the time. His firm does not pay referral fees , they are just very good at their job, and the agents know that. So it is not automatically a bad thing, you just need to understand why they are recommending a particularly conveyancer and whether they have any financial incentive to do so.All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1 -

The woman from the estate agent that showed me the flat I did eventually buy told me in confidence not to use the solicitor they recommended, as she'd had a terrible experience with them when she bought her own property 8 months before. She told me she couldn't in good conscience tell me to use them when they'd been so appalling for her.
I did keep it to myself because I obviously didn't want her to lose her job and got my solicitor through a recommendation from a friend, who she was excellent1
