Just wondering, since I've now been put on the capped rate after the collapse of Avro, do energy suppliers' standing charges vary? It's all well and good being advised not to switch at the moment as most are on the capped rate, but if my current suppliers' standing charges are greater than other suppliers, surely it's better to move?

They're all basically the same.4.29kWp Solar system, 45/55 South/West split in cloudy rainy Cumbria.1

There is some variation in standing charges but it is all taken into account in the total cap. A higher standing charge will mean a lower unit rate so anyone using in excess of the cap 3200 / 12000 will likely be better off with a high standing charge, someone below maybe not so much. The standing charge on its own is not really relevant, it is the overall cost for your particular use that is important.

There is variation but the key point is that even if another company's standard variable rate would be slightly cheaper, you wouldn't be able to switch to it. Everything you could switch to would be significantly more expensive that the tariff you are already on.1
