Mold on new skirting boards!

We moved in the house in July and had the floor screeded, laid parquet and replaced the skirting boards. We've not really used the room as haven't finished decorating (I know it's been a while bit waiting for some building work to start and finish!) I just found green mold on the new skirting and some on the floor. Some was on the exterior wall side but some was on an internal wall but no issues the other side of the wall. I can understand the exterior as we're semi detached and the wall needs repointing (job for next year) but why on an internal wall on one side but not the other? There's also a bit of mold under the bay by the radiator.
We also get really bad condensation (it is a 1908 house) is it worth putting vents in the top of the window? At the moment I just crack the window upon in the day!

I can guess that you didn't give the screed enough time to dry, then trapped the damp under the membrane or underlay.  Now it finds its way up through the wall.

Yes, vents!  Put the window on night latch, constantly for now.

And heating in there now it's
    getting cold.

There's a huge amount of moisture in that floor desperate to get out.  Imagine how many litres of water made up that concrete.  If there's no ventilation, it's staying in the room.

How long after the screed was put down did you lay the parquet flooring?

We waited just over 2 weeks before we laid the parquet.
We're due to paint it in the next couple of weeks but worried it's going to keep coming through.
We live on a busy road so think the vents will be the quietest option.
We did the same in another room but didn't wait as long between the screed and the floor.
We're due to have the hall tiled, if we're having the floor screeded before how long would you suggest waiting before laying the tiles?

Hiring or better still buying a dehumidifier will make your home comfortable

How thick was it? IIRC, it's about 2 months for 50mm

  • It was only 15mm and it was during the summer in July when we had the mini heatwave!
I've changed the thermostat to have it come on during the night and day at 20 and cracked the window for now which helped with the condensation until we get some vents fitted to the windows.
We're having the same level of screed for the hallway to get the floor level with the other rooms but will wait a bit longer before laying the tiles.
The joys of being a FTB!
    Thanks everyone
