Recurrent Transactions

OK guys, you’ve given me an idea. Suppose these three retailers all use the same merchant bank, which has recently updated it’s systems and introduced a bug, which is causing one-off transactions to be processed as recurrent transactions.
That would explain all the facts. How do I find out which merchant bank a retailer uses?
I rather like this explanation because it means the retailers are all innocent and there are no unauthorised CPAs being set up. But does it fly?

You can just check with your credit card provider to see if any CPA have been set up.0

Visa do have a system for blocking CPA's (Mastercard will have the same) but the issue is that, it shows retailers that are known not to take CPA's as well. Which is taken that they are entering something wrong, or someone has set them up to take CPA's and it shows all there transaction in that way.Life in the slow lane0 -
Just a thought, but have you saved your card details with these merchants so it's easier for you when you next purchase? It may be that rather than a CPA, the payments are coming through to Santander as "card on file" and are being flagged as recurring as a result.0

Big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read and try to understand my problem and for the advice and ideas received so far.

It’s a mixed bag. I have an online account with the printer cartridge company and my card details are stored within this. I have an online account with the hotel chain, but my card details are not stored. I have never set up an online account with the airport.
In any case, I don’t think this is the answer, because the situation with regard to card details being stored or not has not changed, but the way that transactions are being processed has changed within the last 2 months.

Could you elaborate on this system for blocking CPAs. Is it something I can request for my account?

I brought up the subject of lists of retailers which hold CPAs on your account when I spoke with the Card Services guy. He seemed sympathetic to the idea and implied he would follow it up, but I’m not holding my breath!

The only issue is that it will only block retailer that you have made a payment too. Not to ANY company that may set up a CPA.
So you can only ask for retailer that you have made a payment too. Danger is if you want to use that company again, it has to be removed & takes around 48 hours to update.Life in the slow lane0 -

Understood. Thanks for the info.
