First Visit to Edinburgh : What's best to see

My daughter is studying in Edinburgh. It's a beautiful city, but so far we've only been on snatched overnight stays to settle her in, so not seen a great deal of the tourist attractions. We went 2 weeks ago and went to portobello beach. It was really lovely and that day 3 musicians were playing as we walked along the front. If it's dry and not too far to go, I'd consider going there.0
