People energy do I still owe money

I cancelled my direct debit with people's energy as soon as they went bust. I got punted onto British gas but my account with them did not start until the 15th of October and therefore the money for the previous month's bill was not paid and nothing will have been paid for the time up until the 15th.

Who will I actually owe money to here? Surely it can't be British Gas until after the 15th. Will people's energy try to claim back this payment? and what will happen if I just ignore it?

You owe the money, the reciever is who you owe money to and although the wheels run slow they do run and you will get a bill, if you ignore it you are ignoring the reciever and next stop is court action as they are working within the Law and their fees get paid for whatever they do, a nice court hearing gets those tills ringing :)

Doubt anyone will take you to court for a couple of hundred quid but yeah I guess we'll see what happens.

Lots of posts on here about people being threatened with court for amounts a lot less.

Potentially given the time of year your account might be mostly up to date or in credit so the bill may be very small - then again I'm an optimist!!  Of course it will still need to be paid.

They may not take you to court but they could trash your credit record and make it nigh on impossible to get credit or a mortgage in the future

It depends if BG have taken responsibility for the final billing and debt, if so then it is them you will be hearing from...
