Indemnifying against Local Authority searches

I suspect it's driven largely by the conveyancers, who might find it a good excuse to introduce somebody else into the process who is even slower then them...
Seriously though, I don't know why people in England & Wales are still getting searches directly from the councils. In Scotland we gave up on that years ago and everybody gets searches from private providers - typically with a turnaround time of a couple of days rather than a couple of months.0
