Just read that CEO of SP has criticised other energy companies for being badly run. He has some cheek!!!! My experience of Scottish Power is that it is one of the worst run energy companies! Maybe he should get his own house in order before criticising others

When I heard this story on Today, I thought they were going to say SP had gone bust. I wouldn't have been all that surprised.

There's a difference between a poorly run customer relations department and a poorly run commercial department.

Scottish Power is part of a massive international energy giant (Iberdrola) and whilst it is never impossible that the supply of energy to a particular domestic market might be seen by the parent company as uneconomic and not worth continuing with, I'd say in this case it's exceptionally unlikely.1

Scottish Power - Irony Alert or what?
Yes, owned by Iberdrola as mentioned, which is Spanish.
SP have also been moaning about the tariff cap, and maintain that it is currently costing them £5bn a day, so want the market to reflect the true reality.
In passing, is there really any justification for companies to ramp up their standing charges in this situation, or are they just taking advantage? I also think that there should be more of an onus on suppliers to JUSTIFY massive direct debit increases, rather than just presenting them as a fait accompli.

Even SP have said that the way things are going, we will end up with just a Big Six again, and they accept that is not a healthy situation.0

What he actually said was that suppliers collectively could end up with cumulative losses of up to £5Bn by the middle of next year as consumers defaulted from fixed deals to the Ofgem Cap.
