Smart meter no longer displays gas reading - faulty

Gas meters run on batteries, that are supposed to last 10 years. But some don't last that long. All you can do is wait until Shell Energy get round to you, then tell them the meter has failed.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

Really?? I was going the other way and watching what I use, because of the price rises.
Been working from home, so useage will be higher than normal. Perhaps I should just say we're never in, as we're back in the office.0 -
Swipe said:You might well get a rude awakening. The meter may well still be recording correctly but failing to display anything, rather like a digital watch when the battery is failing. It's probably because the weather is colder, if it warms up a bit it may show a reading again.Try investigating in the early afternoon on a sunny day. Or place a hot water bottle next to it...1

It stopped working around June, when it was warmer, but I had a lot on then, and kept thinking it would come back on so I'm only attending to this now. Do you think a wee bit of warmth will restart the battery, like when we used to put dud batteries on the radiator for a bit of extra life? Worth a try.
I'm still paying the DD anyway, so hopefully it won't bankrupt us when it's finally resolved.
Thanks everyone for your help.0
