I recently purchased a electric bike in store and arranged to collect it later in the week, the first thing the following g morning before they had started any work I rang to cancel the order as I didn’t really need an electric bike , a normal leisure bike would be fine. The electric bike weighs 25kg and I wanted to ride with my 6 year old and electric bike would be too fast for her to keep up.
now the store tell me I can only have a credit note for the difference between the two bikes. I will not need a new bike in two years time as it should last me longer.
The electric bike was nearly £2000 , the leisure bike is £700 so still a decent spend at the store.

I have appealed to there area manager who says it is company policy but I don’t know what I will ever do with a £1129 credit note .

I paid by my credit card is there may help I can get.
the receipt said only offer an exchange or credit note for unwanted items.

You have no right to a refund if you simply change your mind after a purchase other than an on-line purchase. The receipt states your statutory rights. You might be better off taking the electric bike and selling it privately if you don't think you will be able to use the credit.

As above really. You could also try selling the credit note?1

As TELLIT01 says, you have no right to a cash refund for something you buy in a shop.
Do have another think about what you liked about the e-bike and why you have changed your mind. You say it is 'too fast' which I don't understand. The booklet probably says 15.5mph but that is a legal maximum, it will go as slow as you wish. Perhaps the salesman demonstrated it moving at a fixed steady speed? You can push a switch and it goes as fast or slow as you pedal, just like a normal bike. You only notice the power when you pedal uphill which will feel like pedalling on the flat.
If you do decide to exchange, 2 years is quite a long time in cycling. It is lovely that you all want to go out together as a family, there are so many benefits. 2 years hence you or your husband might be ready for an upgrade. Your by then 8 year old daughter will certainly not still want the 'baby' bike she had when she was six!
Finally, if you accept the credit note keep it safe and mark your calendar clearly well before it runs out. There is usually no flexibility about expiry dates.1 -
When buying in a shop, you have no right to a refund for change of mind as said - sorry.
Not much use now, but it pays to think very, very carefully before shelling out £2k on something!0 -
