Ideas for making fake logs/coal?

    Late to the thread but how about using something that definitely isn't logs? Things that don't quite look real always look terrible in my opinion so if the replica logs don't do the trick how about a few nice glass bottles to diffuse the light.  Craft beers, gins etc come in a variety of colours and shapes of bottle, a small selection coild go together to make a nice feature, of course someone would need to deal with the contents of the bottles…

    Facinated by the tread. I thought I was the only one likely to invent things like this. Posts to come :)
    I was sucessful with tissue and logs and a lamp when I did it for the stage or window display - not sure how close up or the situation would take that.

  • Don't know which 'flickering' bulbs you are using, but I find these type work really well if our 'fireplace

  • Verrrrrry late to thread, but...get an old smartphone, and find one of the many videos of a real log fire available on YouTube. It'll sound real too with the volume turned up to max.

    Nah. 18" LCD monitor hooked up to a Raspberry Pi streaming youtube vids.
    Told Sis that is what I was going to do when she paid a visit whilst I was knocking the lounge out ready to install a log burner. She threatened to disown me if I followed through :D
