Tell me this, now that a new law has begun, whereby anyone letting off fireworks after 11pm and 7am they stand to get an £80 fine, how the hell will it work ?. Imagine the scene, you are lying in bed almost asleep, you here a whoosh and bang, you phone the police........................then what ?

  • in my opinion, i think fireworks should only be sold for a limited time in the year, i.e., the week leading up to nov 5th.

sorry for the responsible majority, but where i currently live in teesside - it is a nightmare for residents as anti-social kids throw bangers/crackers from mid september(!), some days almost around the clock.

this might seem harsh but tell that to the poor families picked on who are getting live fireworks pushed through their letterboxes, or the passers-by getting fireworks thrown at them etc.

as for the new law, well it looks like another well intended clause that will never work. let's be honest, generally those who set off fireworks at midnight have no respect for those around them and will not be bothered in the slightest by the law. police aren't going to come out and deal with it most of the time so it gets undermined.

I totally agree with you about fireworks night, ours will be nov 5th, the only reason I started this thread is because all I want are a couple of catherine wheels, and a couple of traffic lights, just small ones that dont bang and scare everyone and their pets. However it seems so hard to find them, its all about bigger and better now, all I want is to let my two little kids have a little taste of what I remember as a fun part of child hood, before the big boys came in and ruined it all for everyone. Kids are only 7 and 2, and oldest is doing about gunpower plot at school so I thought it would help educationally as well. Why doesnt the new law limit the sale of large fireworks to organised displays only?
