Hi all i recently purchased a wireless usb adaptor so i just plug it into my usb slot on my NON-wireless desktop and run the driver cd and hey presto - wirelessly connected to my router. However....... there isnt a problem with the item because it is showing me as connected to my sky broadband, and there isnt a problem with my router or sky broadband because i am currently using them as we speak to write this post. My question to all the techies out there is this: although im connected to sky broadband, why when i open internet explorer does it not let me online??
i just get the usual ie page saying:
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

please please please can somebody help?
i am at my wits end and im not the best with computers so i think this is something simple that i need to do.
thanks all in advance for your help...

Do you have any leftover modem/ISP software installed? Also have you definitely put in the right encryption key for connecting to the wireless network?"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

i have def put the right key in as it wont allow you to connect without it and it says connected, as for the isp software, im not sure what was on my desktop when my brother gave it me but i loaded the sky bb disc onto it just the same as i did my laptop (which is already wireless), but its just not letting me online???superscaper wrote: »Do you have any leftover modem/ISP software installed? You don't want ANY sky software installed, get rid of anything related to it."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You don't need it. All you need is the drivers/software for the wireless adapter. The adapter gets it's data from the router/modem which is itself the thing that is actually connected to the internet through sky. So your router is already connected to the internet. From your computer's point of view it doesn't matter which ISP the router is connected with, all that matters is simply connecting to the router. And for that all you need is just the wireless adapter to work.
I suspect that you aren't getting connected because your computer, through the sky software, thinks it need a broadband modem to dial up first connected directly to the computer. I may be wrong but you still don't need any ISP software installed on your computer, ever. And that's general advice to anyone."She is quite the oddball. just tried going online on my desktop, it says:
wireless network connection (sky *****)
speed 54.0 mbps
signal strength: excellent
status: connected
Then when i click on the internet icon it says this:
the page you are looking for is currently unavailable. the web site may be exp tech difficulties, or u may need to adjust your browser settings.
any ideas?0 -

Have you completely rebooted? Also try running ccleaner to clear up leftover carp."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
