My canon printer is driving me nuts, just changed the ink and it has refused to print. It's temperamental at the best of times. Reccys needed for a printer that does what it says on the box. I mostly print documents letters and the occasional photograph. Budget around £75. I am technically challenged so it needs to be simple to use.

I have a canon printer and it's brilliant when it prints lol. Mine has a problem the paper feed. It constantly says paper cartridge is empty when it's not. I've found that it likes some brands of paper more then others. Googling showed that it was a issue that it has. What model do you have? Mine is PIXMA MG57500

I'd probably go with something like this (which is similar to what I have)...

It comes with 9 months of Instant Ink (worth more than the price of the Printer).0 -
My Canon MG3600 series decided to reject lookalike cartridges last year - as I had a job to get out I managed to buy a new printer - There was a world shortage at the time so bought what I could get. I then tried genuine cartridges in the old printer and it has worked fine since. I also managed to buy another MG3600 as a spare - still in its box but each time I need to print this particular documentation I get £500 which is several times each year - to date the original printer has done over 9,000 copies.

Bit curious that change of ink kicked it off. Was it Canon ink or un branded? I know some makers chip their tanks and such and make it difficult to use aftermarket ink though I thought that was for laser printers?
Be wary of cheap printers, they will get you back through high ink usage. I used to print my own photos as well but it was cheaper to beam them to Snapfish.
But just bought an Epson Eco Tank myself, the page yield for printing from a full tank is higher than the laser I had (which are usually a lot!) but they cost a deal more than you want to spend.

Step 1: Remove and re-seating the inks.
Step 2: Flea-drain power from the printer. That means turn it off at the wall and press the power button. Turn the printer back on.
Step 3: Return the printer inks to the sender for a refund
Step 4: Retry with a brand new set of genuine inksPlease don't buy a new printer unless you have to. They are a terrible source of eWaste because of the whole "cheap printers/expensive ink cartridges" fiasco. If all else fails and you do need to buy a new printer, it would be good to know:
1/ What volume of printing you do each year
2/ Whether you print little and often or occasionally
3/ Whether you print documents, photographs and whether you need to print in colour
4/ How you sould like to connect to your printer
a/ Plugged directly into a computer via USB cable
b/ Plugged via network cable into the back of the broadband routerc/ Wirelessly
A dream is not reality, but who's to say which is which?1 -
In my case I had been buying from Asda on a regular basis for the previous two years with no problems. I had fitted new inks and it would not work. I fitted another set ((I always have a couple of sets on hand) and they did not work. Not being happy with the new printer (it does not do duplex) I bought a set of genuine Canon and everything worked fine (still does)0

Thanks for the replies. My tame techie came and had a look at it, even he could not get it to go, so its gone. I have got an Epson to replace it. have not had a chance to really try it yet. watch this space.0
