Boiler cover
I have boiler cover with Your Repair. We had an engineer out to do the service last week which is included annually and he said he couldn’t do it as the boiler was thick with dirt and hasn’t had a decent service in years. We told him we’ve had boiler cover over 10 years at least and he said yes most do a basic boiler check and it’s not a full service even though they call it one.
So do any companies offer a full proper service with their boiler cover? I feel like I’ve been ripped off paying monthly for a basic check once a year. I pay £20 a month!

I’ve been with British Gas for years but when I’ve tried to get a plumber through then they keep making appointments that they then don’t keep. I’ve wasted loads of time waiting in and the leak still isn’t fixed.
I had the same problem getting them to service my boiler when they used Covid as an excuse. British Gas cover just feels like a rip off. Pay money, get nothing for it.
Does anyone have better experience with another company as I’ve really had enough of British Gas.0 -
Personally I would recommend HomeserveBarnet_Pimpernel said:I’ve been with British Gas for years but when I’ve tried to get a plumber through then they keep making appointments that they then don’t keep. I’ve wasted loads of time waiting in and the leak still isn’t fixed.

Parents didn't get their annual service done during Covid at all in one policy year.Barnet_Pimpernel said:I’ve been with British Gas for years but when I’ve tried to get a plumber through then they keep making appointments that they then don’t keep. And of course no voluntary refund offered.
But I phoned and made sure the fee was taken off at next renewal.
They initially wanted simply to schedule a catch up and do this years annual service at regular time. About 2 m after renewal.
When they checked availability - that meant 2 services within a fortnight.
Even the telephone operator said a stupid situation.
And quickly discounted renewal.

I wouldn't want Homeserve opening a can of beans for me, never mind trying to fix a boiler.SaverRate said:

I was also going to suggest Homeserve but see that they cover only includes the boiler service in year one.

I've paid around £50 for an annual boiler service by a local company. Got the very old boiler replaced 18 months ago by another local company. Got a boiler with a 10 year warranty and am continuing to have the annual service, as it's a requirement of the warranty.I don't have, and don't see the need for, a boiler cover contract. Especially not at £20 a month. You'll have paid for a new boiler by the time they tell you that you need one and the contract doesn't cover it for some reason!

Don't pay monthly, get a local company in once a year, probably cheaper and they are more likeyt to turn up on time and not make excuses.Barnsley, South Yorkshire

OP, you didn't really get nothing for your £240, you were insured during that period. The service perhaps accounts for something like a third of that.
Another vote from me for a local gas tech to carry out a thorough service. I have emergency cover as part of my home insurance, it adds about £55 to my annual premium, so if I'm left without heating or hot water I have an alternative if my gas guy is unavailable. He carries out a proper strip-down service each year, rather than the basic probe-up-the-exhaust-pipe-and-look-at-a-laptop "service" the big insurers provide.0 -
With Homeserve its cheaper to not renew the policy but take out a new policy (if you take out exactly the same one you get a returning customer price through the website but with a boiler service still).Brie said:I was also going to suggest Homeserve but see that they cover only includes the boiler service in year one.
