Cheap Lawn Seed or Expensive Turf? HELP!
Comments

Hi there so we opted to go for new lawn seed in the end. I have no idea about these things but we called the company and were advised to use this hard wearing lawn seed mixture. Its already up and growing well. We have had some cold nights but is seems to be growing ok. The kids cant use it for a while though or they might damage it? Does anyone have any experience of damaging new lawn seed? The company we bought it from does have a information on their site about how to grow lawn seed but I cant see how the kids being on it would kill it? Interestingly we also bought some yellow rattle seed for a rough patch of grass that we have that the kids cant use as it should slow the grass growth down (when we move we may not see the benefit but still)Soot2006 said:It's warm, it's rainy, chuck down the seeds ASAP and you should have new growth within weeks.
Thanks again for all the advice

Well, the kids will damage it the same way as they damaged the original lawn - and it's less robust when it's just sproutingAll posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)1

If you keep off the current tired lawn it should recover probably quicker than if seeded.

Get any old seed - even the cheapest from Wilko. That's what we used. Sow nice and thick (remember, a third will get eaten, a third will not grow / blow off / drown, only thr last third will actually grow... on average).
Any newly seeded lawn will look great compared to nothing.
Will take a month or two from seeding to being a fully established lawn.

I don't think many would judge your house on the grass quality. If I viewed the house and grass was all dead I could easily see past that.0

I really doubt that grass quality will affect house value.0

Not specific to the original post but if anyone is looking to turf a small area and is willing to wait a few weeks before it looks really good B&Q have regular deliveries of turf and if not sold in a few days sell it off cheap. Now some of it may have yellowed but we ended up buying some for 50p a roll that looked as if it was dying but put it down and in a few weeks it looked as if it was brand new turf.2
