House deep clean and oven clean

I live in a 3 bed semi detached house. I clean my house at least once per week, however I would like a deep clean.  I clean the oven after using it most times.  Someone recently recommended a cleaner.

I spoke to this cleaner on the telephone and supplied the measurements of each room - he quoted £150 but said he wanted to view the house.  He then quoted £300 for a deep clean and £100 for an oven clean after visiting.  I asked if this was his best price and he reduced it to £200 for the deep clean and £100 for the oven clean.  I have a small single oven - here it is: https://service.hoover.co.uk/advice-centre/ovens/hoe3051in/

Is that reasonable for an average size 3 bed semi detached house and small single oven? I live in the Midlands if that makes any difference.

This link seems to suggest the oven clean should cost about £50: https://www.checkatrade.com/blog/cost-guides/oven-cleaning-prices/.  I am not sure how much a deep clean should cost.

I would be grateful to hear thoughts on this; plus if you had your oven cleaned or house deep cleaned then how much did it cost? Which region/county do you live in if you don't mind me asking (so I can take London weighting into consideration)?

In my experience you are better to get a specialist to clean your oven. They will be better set to do so than a general cleaner. £50-60 per oven is about the going rate. £100 is too high unless you are in London.

I've paid upto £300 for a deep clean of a two bedroom terraced house, but felt I was overcharged, but this was a number of years ago. I think it would be worthwhile ensuring that you and the cleaner understands what you mean by a "deep clean". If there specific things you want to be cleaned, make sure they have a list of these and that the quote mentions them.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Walk away, he tried to rip you off, then realised you weren't so daft after all.
Your oven doesn't sound as if it's ready for a clean if you do it yourself each time you use it. And when you do it should never be over £50
Deep clean one room at a time

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • This stuff for £2.50. Works absolute wonders dissolving the muck so that you just need to give the racks and oven a wipe afterwards.

Oven clean should be maximum £60. I’d look for a specialist company, even someone who advertises on fb.

And get some more quotes for the “deep clean” and come to a very clear understanding of exactly what it involves!

How would you decline the quote at this time without burning bridges, so I can go back in future if I cannot find a better quote?

Simply tell him that you have decided not to go ahead at present.  If they get pushy or annoyed you know you have made the right decision.

We have a guy come in periodically who only cleans ovens. He's excellent and for a single oven he charges £60. This is on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border.

We've now got a range cooker which he obviously charges more for but I still think it's well worth it. By the time he's done the oven looks new.
  • I booked two cleans today with OvenClean who I can't fault at all and have used for years. They use no harsh chemicals, lots of elbow grease and always leave it looking like new again.

Single oven is £60 (1.5-2 hours) and I also booked a clean for a double oven range cooker in the new house, he's quoted £100 and it will take approximately 3 hours.

For the house deep clean, sounds similar to an end of tenancy clean which I would expect to cost around £400 - £500 for a 3 bed semi (Cambridge).
  • Yes I think definitely get a professional in to do a deep clean. I used one a while back and they did a great job. Diamond Home Support - I think they cover quite a bit of the UK. They were a bit cheaper than some others too.
