Credit in fees for partial refund to buyer?

Options
I had to partially refund a buyer as he had to buy a spare part which is fair enough for an item I sold on eBay.

You used to get a partial refund credit on what the item cost.....I'm not seeing that, just that the partial refund was successful. So basically, eBay have taken the full fat fee and I've not been refunded in any form for the partial refund - it was quite an expensive item which I sold for £300, then eBay's 17% fee, and the partial refund was in the amount of £70. So, nearly a quarter of what I sold it for yet I'm not seeing them take anything for the off the sold price for in fees for the partial refund. Doesn't at all seem fair to me if that is the case.

Anyone know?

You haven’t had a partial FVF refund for years, probably 8 years or so- it was always a full refund or nothing. Also ebay fees are 10% plus a fixed fee of 30p.

Sorry, maybe you misunderstood soolin....I've had partial refunds many a time in the past (before managed payments) as can see in eBay invoices over the years where automatic adjustments were made by eBay if I gave a partial refund to buyers. I've just checked some old invoices and it clearly shows this.

Also, it's not 10%. I'm a biz seller with TRS. Mine change from circa 9% to up to 17% depending on category. I can be sure this sold item had a 17% fee haviing checked and seeing payout details. I'm one of those that checks and re-checks to be sure I'm not getting ripped off and know what categories not to sell in again lol.

Ebay stopped giving fee credits for partial refunds a while ago. Certainly well before managed payments.  I can't find anything that old without digging but I have one from 2019 with no fee credit.

Maybe you have just been lucky and have not had to give one for longer than you remember!

Interesting because I checked my latest invoices and have had the credit on a partial refund I've given to an eBay member just last month, which was the last partial I had given. That is the eBay invoice I was checking. Obviously fine is a full refund is given.

Guessing I'm lucky and some kind of weird glitch - being eBay, that wouldn't surprise me.

Maybe they carried on doing partial fee credits for business sellers for a while longer?

I’m a business seller and haven’t had partial refunds for years, it was when they took it away (and later PayPal did) that I stopped automatically refunding excess postage.

Ah, do you have P&P included in your items or not? I've always had P&P included in item cost so wonder if that's part of it. Whatever, it's very odd as spoken with other biz sellers and they've also not had FVF credit in any form for years when giving a partial refund.

Anyway, looks like my time of partial refund credits on FVF's are over lol.
