O/S Daily Tuesday 19 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, damp under foot at the moment, heating is on but I'll turn it off in a bit.
DH up and getting ready for work as is DS1. I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for DH, fish and rice for DS1 and I had fish and veg. Tonight will be LO's from roast.
Yesterday work wasn't too bad to start off, then went manic and we were busy but I now do a different role on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon. We'll see how today goes.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
It's a bit damp out this morning judging by my dogs fur after they have been out for a wee. I had a bit of a better night and the antibiotics have started to work already.
This morning I am going to make a lasagne for tea and some corned beef pasties for lunch. I want to use up a load of veg as the fridge drawer is bursting at the seams. I also want to finish off an order for 2 knitted Deadpool choc orange covers for my niece. I have made 3 hats so far as well so if I can I will start another one too.
I have cancelled a visit from my friend today as she stays for hours at a time and to be honest, I don't have that much conversation in me plus it is Lee's day off and he doesn't want to be confined to his bedroom because he is too uncomfortable to come downstairs.
Breakfast is calling me so I will go and put the kettle on. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning folks. That's better news Dumpling, keep taking the tablets. 😀
The sunrise yesterday was more of a damp squid but the sunset was spectacular, the sky was fiery red with bands of pink and blue. I'm banking on that meaning a good'ish day ahead today.Yesterday I vacuumed the stairs using the hand-held machine so they look much better. The only problem was that the vacuum needs the on button held in all the time so it gets really sore. I need to investigate a different model (mine's a D*son). I also vacuumed round downstairs with the very easy to use upright.Later in the afternoon I lit the stove, it's just so comforting. Mind you, I got too hot for comfort at one point so had to open the front door. 😀 The pile of very old wood is burning down nicely, come the really cold weather I'll be using some oak which burns much hotter than other woods. As for today...no idea yet. Something will come to me no doubt. I'm fighting the urge to drive up to Oban as I don't need to buy anything.Hugs to all. Happy Tuesday too.11 -
Morning all
Chilly here and rain due later I think.
I had a horrible day at work yesterday and spent most of the evening in tears, basically i was told that my old job is still there and waiting for me or I can apply for the 5 day a week job, my old job is far too physical for me now and you are on your feet for 8 hours a day and often dont have a lunch break its a lot of lifting and just far too much for me, the five day a week job I could physically do but the money is so bad its barely above minimum wage and I think I will struggle on five full days, (I am struggling now on five part time days) I am not sure I can live on that money and pay my bills. I have basically been told do one of these jobs or go. The Taxoxifen tablets I am on are causing extreme fatigue to the point that after five hours of work (sitting down) I come home and can hardly drag myself upstairs to have a shower, and cooking a dinner seems like a marathon.
I am now very anxious about the whole thing and feel sick this morning because of that, I am going to phone my Dr today to see if he can help with the exhaustion and to get it on my records, and I will phone acas to see if they can offer any advice, I phoned Mcmillian cancer help line and they gave me some good advice. I have another meeting next Monday, with three people (two managers and HR) but I am going to email today and ask if I can change the date in order to take someone with me as I spent yesterdays meeting barely able to talk as I kept breaking down. I am at a complete loss as to what to do now. And I am struggling to eat as I feel so uptight
I need to empty the dw before work and put a wash on, dinner tonight is beef casserole which is already made and I just need to put it in the oven we will have some crusty bread with it.
I hope you all have good days and Im sorry to moan xxx11 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. DUMPLING you have done right cancelling your friend's visit as she always seems to outstay her welcome, but I'm pleased that the a/b;s are already having an effect.
Yay it's Tuesday so morning coffee then lunch day with oldest buddy so a no cooking day for me, I think just a snack at teatime will do. Rain is promised just in time for me going down for the bus and there is no shelter bah!
It's middle DGDs birthday today - she is now a teenager! I've just had a WhatsApp thanking me for my present. with lots of hearts and kisses, aw bless! I so miss looking after the little people they used to be. Time passes too quickly.
Round of applause please! Yesterday I finally went back to the decluttering I started months ago and then abandoned! Why did I keep a box of all occasion cards dating back to my 21st birthday nearly 55 years ago!! Loads of get well cards after I had an op a year later, wedding acceptances and cards, birth congratulation cards, etc, you name it I kept them!! I have to keep reminding myself how unfair it is to leave all this stuff for someone else to clear when I'm gone. On the face of it I don't have much clutter but opening cupboards and ottomans etc reveals a different story. Time to be ruthless!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, poorly loved ones, sad or worried. Take care one and all and be safe xx
Editing to add some extra big hugs for RUBY. I really hope something can be sorted for you soon xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Morning All
Oh Ruby what a terrible situation, I hope you can find a solution quickly, have a special hug.
Glad you're feeling better dumpling.
Well done TA, I keep thinking I've decluttered then find another load!
I had to go for a PCR test yesterday, my cough was too much for those at work. I'm sure I have a cold virus so am sat here waiting for the test result to arrive. Pretty sure it will be negative so will go in once it arrives, I can do a bit of work from home but not very much. My colleague was back yesterday briefly but didn't feel well enough to do the whole day so she's working from home too. Only another colleague in for a couple of hours but that's after the really busy bit first thing so they'll have to manage.
Washing is hanging about on the pulley, it's still raining, will put a hot wash on later when there's room to dry it. The weather is quite mild but so damp, hoping I can manage just putting the fire on again tonight and save putting the heating on.
I moved furniture round when the decorators had been which means the TV is on a wall with no aerial socket, don't really want to have another fitted so I've bought an extra long cable that works a treat. Doesn't look too good but just watching from the fire stick is a bit of a faff for me. I may move everything back to how it was anyway!
Right, I'll do a few odd jobs to while away the time, have a good day. Take care. XX10 -

I hope you all have good days and Im sorry to moan xxxYou're not moaning - and even if you were it's good. After saying that I couldn't offer any advice I went into 'angry for you' mode which made ACAS pop into my mind. PLEASE contact them for really good help and advice https://www.acas.org.uk/contact They are the people to give you all the legal support you really do need against your employer. 🌹

Hi everyone,
Redruby, that's shocking treatment. Are you a union member? If so, contact them as soon as possible to get them involved.
Camelot, fingers crossed it's not Covid. Dumpling, I'm glad the antibiotics are working.
Just a short one as I am about to take Steve to the golf club so that I can have the car.10 -
Morning! Windy, yuk.. Got some of the sewing done yesterday, hemmed and added webbing and put up one of the windbreaks. I need to find some metal so I can screw that over it, I don't think staples are going to cut it if it gets very windy. I did repurpose some slats from a blind for now but I don't think they'll be strong enough. It's pretty dark in there now and it'll be even darker once the other top edge is on. I did start sanding the table and as soon as I did, the rain started. So I brought it back in, took the two leaves off and numbered them so I won't forget which side is which. I unearthed a bit of material to cover the top with, a kind of jungle and Frida Kahlo print, OH has thumbs up'd it. I have a pair of jeans to mend for a friend today. And if I stir myself a bit more, some material to cut out for a pair of trousers. It looks like a fairly simple pattern but we'll see. And there are the tomatoes from the greenhouse to gather at some point, every time I walk past it, I see a few more on the floor. They're not quite ripe so at least they don't split The TD is covered in them.Ruby, I'm sorry your employers are making it so difficult for you. There's a downloadable pdf on the mcmillan site about going back to work, if you haven't already seen it https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/impacts-of-cancer/work-and-cancer/reasonable-adjustments. Bear in mind that there are other adjustments they can make, not just those that are mentioned. Everything depends on your individual circumstances, and all the uncertainty is enough to make you worry more. I would also, think about writing down exactly what you do want [ at this time right now, not in the future] and see how you might be able to achieve that outcome. There;s no need to show your work that though, going in with a modified version and a reasonable demand is much better if you can point to what you are able and willing to do. Dumpling, good to see you taking positive steps to avoid being put in situations caused by others...TA, well done! and I hope the rain keeps off. Camelot, hope your PCR is being done by a lab that works! After the news about the other one with false negatives....Have a good day all, if you can, if you can't, channel zombie killing attitude....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi8

Morning, hugs if you need one.
Dumpling, pleased to hear that the medication is starting to work. RR I really would encourage you to contact ACAS and make sure you have a union rep when you next meet your employers. It appears to me that they are trying to force you out which is grossly unfair. Get as much info as you can on your situation before you meet with your employers again.
Its another dull morning here. yesterday we had a biblical downpour, I was so glad I had taken my washing in before I went into town, although I did have to finish it in the dryer. Towels are in just now will have to put them through the dryer too.
Need to start a couple of cards today, I want to get them done ready for next week.
Supper tonight, sausage , mash and veggies. We got strawberries at the weekend so will have a few with a tiny blob of ice cream.

Morning all weather is yuk and feeling more like winter every day . Dog walked ,roofers here windows in the roof go in today but still no word from the double glazing people I am booking up things to do so they will now have to fit in with me maybe if they had called when they said they would i might have been able to accommodate them as DH said its there money tied up at the moment not ours. Waiting for the courier to collect DD2's wedding dress to go to Bristol to be cleaned and re packed ready to be made into christening robes and moses basket covers when the time comes.
Ruby I am so angry on your behalf definitely call ACAS and never speak to management/HR without someone with you tell them you need a date and time for the meeting you are legally entitled to have a witness with you, also ask to see all minutes taken at any meetings
Nels and Marie sending you both gentle hugs and hope you are back with us soon x
Dumpling you are doing the right thing cancelling your friend
I am sorry to hear that we have so many with worries and not feeling well take care all of you x
Have a good day whatever you are up to stay safe xxSlava Ukraini7
