Owing Pure Planet Money

Hi all - I'm with pure planet so got the news they're ceasing to trade. I've admittedly been a little behind on meter readings and suspect I owe them money. But I'm not sure how that works, as all the info I can find is about them owing you money if you're in credit. I'm not sure that if I take a meter reading now and do owe them money that if that money goes into the abyss, or if I don't settle up I'll then have to pay even more to whatever company takes over. (For example, does the new company taking over take into account past credit and debit, or are they starting from scratch).

Thanks

The SOLR (now known to be Shell) will ask you for a reading, probably in the next few days. This will be used to open your account with them and also as the final reading for your time with Pure Planet. You can send them the same reading if you like, but it should find its way to them anyway. In due course PP's administrators will send you a final bill. If you owe them anything they will ask you to pay. If you're in credit, this will be passed on to Shell.

Your account will transfer across to the SoLR along with any credit or debit balance. The important thing to check is that both suppliers use the same reading to close down your old account and to open your new account. Both the failed supplier and the SoLR should ask you for meter readings. The SoLR will work out a monthly DD to cover your projected usage on its deemed tariff and any debit balance owed to the failed supplier.

Not quite.  I understand that Shell will be responsible for both credits and debits.  They will deal with Pure Planet's administrators as necessary.

Debit balances are usually passed across to the SoLR. A debit balance is not a debt until the consumer has been told and 28 days has elapsed.

Thanks all. So do you think the advice is to settle up with PP while I have the chance?

There isn't anyone at PP to settle up with, and Shell haven't set up your new account yet.
Your account, and its credit/debit, will be transferred toShell and they will be in touch in 2-3 months to let you know how much you owe.

  • I have a similar question:
Pure planet have requested payment for an account I had some time ago.
I do not have details of the readings but when I was there they were terrible at over estimating the usage, even after giving them readings Which is one of the reasons that I left.
So I have no idea if I do owe them. Especially since they have gone bust.
I have had two companies since them. So not sure if the new company takes the debt.
    Any advice?

Any debt owed is due to the administrators of the failed company.  The SoLR is only responsible for paying any account credit once they have been informed by the administrators. Unless you can challenge the amount owed you are stuck with it.

Account credit is automatically the responsibility of the SoLR.
Account debt is a matter for negotiation.
The administrators can opt to chase their own debts if they believe they can net the best result for the creditors of the failed supplier, or they can reach an agreement with the SoLR to pass the debts on to them as well if that is going to get the best return for the creditors.
Have to wait and see what is agreed in each case.
