Pacific Horizon Investment Trust

Hi Forum

Re Pacific Horizon Investment Trust

I've heard good things about the returns of this IT focused on Asia Pacific ex Japan and India, however a little worried about China of late e.g. regulatory clampdowns etc, any views please? I'm looking at a 10 year investment window.

  • Well it's gone up a lot, so it  could go down a lot, as well.
In theory,  the manager could rotate more to India, if China looks bad, which is an advantage.

You can see the returns, this information is public, you don't need to "hear" about them.
I am always sceptical about the future returns potential of any asset that triples in value in the space of less than 2 years.

How and where does it fit in your overall portfolio?

A one-off 100% in PHI would be an exciting ride and way, way above the risk tolerance of most investors.

I wonder if you've missed the boat with this one. It's also trading at a 7% premium after years of being at a discount. If it cycled back to a discount as well as even a small share price drop that could be quite a kick in the nadgers

If you have concerns regarding China. Find an alternative investment that excludes the region from it's investment remit. Never invest on the basis of the fear of missing out. Certainly worth doing your own research on China and drawing your own conclusions. A very different culture, mindset, level of corporate governance to the West. Nor forget who the CEO is of every company, the State.

Slightly off tangent and regarding missing the boat, with the S&P 500 trading at an all time high as overvalued, should a new investor be slightly wary of joining the US bandwagon, as from my basic knowledge, there is no headroom room for growth 9or is there???). This was after I had watched a youtube video whereby the commentator explained that Vanguard's LS 100 maybe a better punt than their global funds (e.g. Global All Cap) now for the aforementioned...thoughts please team?

I noticed this being flagged on HL news this morning, I wonder if that has raised the profile of it
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I agree with that opinion for those reasons in general but no one knows. Others disagree for different reasons.
Being influenced by YouTube and using the word "punt" are not sensible ways to go about making investment decisions.

An equally weighted index ( SP500 ewi ) could provide a better option than the stock concentration of the cap driven S&P 500. If you are concerned about the valuations placed on the FANGS and Tesla. The greatest downside is that smaller cap stocks are more volatile. Though pound cost averaging would smooth the purchase cost if the investment were to be drip feed.

You can’t not invest because a market is at ATH, you would spend a lot of time not investing.

LS 100 still has 40% plus in the US its not going to insulate you significantly from US stocks.

Watch this for an explanation of why graphs can mislead you.
