British Gas wrongly entering debt on my credit file

Hello everyone

My Mum passed away in March and I contacted British Gas explaining I was the executor of her will, and would be now living in her premises while I sorted all affairs
I was given a bill in my name but British Gas have entered her debt onto my credit file.
I have to move shortly as the house is on an equity release, I had accomodation arranged but my new landlord has withdrawn the offer because of this debt ony credit file.
I cannot get through on the phone, letters and emails are ignored, the text service where I have explained the situation replies to my message saying "we have not heard back from you, goodbye"!!
Am I liable for this and other debts, I have written to a few companies saying any debts will be cleared from the house sale as well as making weekly payments out of my own pocket.
Now I have a letter from British gas saying they will obtain a warrant to fit a prepayment meter, the gas is being capped off this week, I don't use it.
Thank you everyone.

The estate is liable for any debt, if there is enough money in the estate to cover it. You should not be paying any out of your own money.

Have you contacted their bereavement team?
You need to make it clear to British Gas that you are making a formal complaint, and invoke their complaints procedure.
In the meantime you can put a dispute on the credit files, or a notice explaining the circumstances. It won’t correct it, but it will give some background to anyone looking at it.
Did you give them opening meter readings at the time you took over the account?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

To state the obvious. If the property is occupied by yourself. Then it is you that's now consuming the gas not the estate of your late mother.

But not the outstanding debt from when the property was occupied by their late mother, which I think is the issue?
