O/S Daily Monday 18 October 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry at the moment, temperature has dropped, heating is on at the moment but I'll turn it off in a bit.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Lunch yesterday was roast pork, lovely it was too, some LO's so enough to make another meal. Tonight we'll probably have fish, chips/veg, beans.
Yesterday was a quiet chilled day, I got up early and did the lunch prep and then some food prep for this week so hopefully it makes the week nights a little easier and I'm not having to buy further ingredients as I haven't planned properly.
Work will be a nightmare as always on a Monday, I've had a slight adjustment to my rota'd hours it effects today and tomorrow - not great I'm not happy about it but if I kick up a stink they could alter my hours in a much worse way and say I have to do that instead so decided just to take this and get on with it!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all cold and foggy this morning. Nice weekend we went shopping and bought all that we needed for DS room bed and carpet being delivered early December so that gives DH time to do the decorating . Dinner at a friends on Saturday didn't get home till 2am so Sunday was a lazy day just a bit of wallpaper stripping and i had to change my car tyre as it had a puncture so i will be sourcing a new tyre today it was 2 nails but there are lots of people having building work done everywhere and the guy said he has been out to loads . The roofers are back today i think they will be here for another couple of days but still no word from the window company . I am going to the church as mums ashes are being intered with my dads so they will finally be together again its just me going as I just wanted to spend some quiet time with them. Dinner tonight sausage n mash with onion gravy .
Have a great day whatever you are up to stay safe xxSlava Ukraini11 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, it's a shame you feel you can't say anything for fear of your job.
Wet again this morning, it's that fine drizzle that gets you very wet but quite mild. I didn't have the heating on yesterday but lit the stove at lunch time so the house was quite warm. I put the washing on the airer in the living room when I went to bed and it's dry this morning.
My day of sloth went well, watched a couple of films, ate rubbish and didn't do a lot. I'm still struggling to get rid of this cough and cold, hoping going back to work today will help with sleep and get back into a routine.
Anyone seen Florenceem? Missing news of her bakes and makes.
Hope Nelski continues to recover, thinking of Marie and Poppy too.
Have a good Monday, take care. XX

Morning all
Brrrr chilly here this morning and OH said its cold and raining outside, that means work will be quiet and not a lot to do ! I found out that the job I wanted to apply for is a full time 5 day job and I am looking to do four days a week, I am struggling with working five days now so want to cut down, so i think its back to the drawing board on the job front. I am worrying about it and dreaming of work (not in a good way) so I hope this can be sorted sooner rather than later.
Leftover roast beef tonight the beef was so tasty so I am looking forward to it and I just need to heat it though so no effort there, dw needs empying this morning and I will put a wash on before I go.
We had a lovely day yesterday we found the farmer with the spuds and bought 1/2 sack for £5 which I thought was quite good, we got mum one too so I shall take them round to her later, there was also a stall outside someones house so we bought a huge butternut squash some aubergines and peppers all home grown and they look lovely, We then went onto a nature reserve harbour and had a four mile walk, it was so warm we were walking in t-shirts we then came home to cook the dinner and shared a bottle of wine, it was a lovely day.
Right better get on have good days all xx11 -
Morning folks. It's still so dark outside, I can't see anything yet, I plan to stay in bed to watch the sun rise.Yesterday my neighbour came to cut out the hole in the ceiling and fit in the PIV unit. He was here for over four hours doing that, now I need the sparky to connect up the power into the loft. I had to clean at the upstairs surfaces and stairs with a damp cloth and will vacuum the stairs today. This morning I have to post off the set of keys I still have for the Glasgow flat. My nearest PO is now a good 30 miles away as my local one closed 18 months ago. Today is forecasted to be very rainy ☹️ again so it's back out with the wet weather gear.Nothing much else on my agenda, it's still rather odd having so much freedom and so little to do.Bella - I hope all goes well today, it'll be sad but also good. My DM's ashes are still here, I'm not going to scatter them until springtime. Don't know why, it just feels right to wait. The sky is lightening, I'm getting restless so it'll soon be time to rise and shine.Hugs to our poorlies. Happy Monday to everyone.12

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's supposed to be mild today but the heating is on for a quick burst as it doesn't feel very mild to me!
My day of sloth yesterday resulted in me spending a lot of money on the internet! Although I have bought a few stocking fillers whilst out and about I still have a list a mile long so I made a concerted effort yesterday and started looking in earnest! I had my 20% off voucher for Lakeland, which expires in two days, so I have ordered a few foodie gifts from there. (Hope they have a decent use by date on them!) And I just hope I am not tempted to delve into them myself! The other gifts I ordered are not edible so I am safe with those!
We had a new addition to the family over the w/e. Ds and his DP finally got their baby Staffy. She has been christened Molly and I can't wait to meet her. So far I have only seen photos and a little video. Aw she is just so cute!
So today I had better play catch up on the jobs neglected over the w/e I suppose. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, poorly loved ones and MIA, BELLA I hope today goes well with DM's ashes. There's never a good time to do it just whenever feels best for those left behind. We left scattering Bob's until his first anniversary as this just seemed a good time to us. But I still have part of them in a ginger jar on the dresser. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning! Hideously grey and drizzly cold...I've put the heating on for an hour lured by the promise of 15 degrees later, otherwise I'd have lit the fire. I used up all the bits of paper last year and now don't have an awful lot left to start the fire off, so visits to Lidl involve coming back with some of their magazines each time. Made a beef roast yesterday. It was ready in the quickest time ever for me. Just about two hours in total from the meat going in to everything ready. I put the potatoes in at the same time as the meat for a change. Not many leftovers, I used up what potatoes there were in the fridge, the kale, brocoli, and only just out of date packet of stuffing, the manky carrots I'd peeled. There is a bucket of home grown ones under the stairs but they're very dense and firm and wouldn't make good roasties. Leftovers will be added to today, for me anyway, OH on lates again so doubt he'll take a packed lunch.Got double jabbed yesterday too. I was there for the booster and she asked me if I wanted the flu jab as well. I said if they can do them both in one arm, why not. So I must phone and cancel the one at the doctors this weekend. This one took a lot longer than either of the covid jabs before, but I got to sit down for a bit before I got called for a change. I was there for about an hour but at least I didn't faint afterwards, unlike two people I saw just going sparko...Today I have vague plans if it stops raining to either flatten gravel or detail sand. If it does rain, I'm going to get the offcuts from the gothbox sides out to make a windbreak type thing for the front and side, they should just be long enough to deflect rain being blown in in the little gap between the wall and the bigger one in front to the lean to.Camelot, flo might be afk after an ill timed comment in another thread. Havent really seen her since. Ruby, sounds like a lovely day. Shame about the job. Have a look on your councils website, ours have a few half time positions sometimes. Glad to hear Nelski is coming on...Enjoy your day if you can, if not, try listening to loud music and yeling your head off singing to it...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Good morning everyone
Sorry for my absence for the last few days, I haven't been very well physically and mentally. I have managed to get a same day phone appointment with my GP as I have developed cellulitis again in my bad leg. It is very painful so I am hoping the doctor will prescribe me some antibiotics and pain relief. Lee has been quite unwell again and that has had a knock on effect on me. I have been very weepy and I am extremely tired from not sleeping. Lee seems to be doing a bit better today though as he has just left for college.
The district nurse is coming today to change my dressing. It all seems a bit pointless as my leg will have soaked through the pads in about an hour. I am worried about developing trench foot!!! Not really but it is not pleasant to leave a trail of wet footprints and little puddles as if I were a naughty puppy. I just wish it would stop.
Steve is on kitchen duty tonight. We are having pork loin chops and whatever he feels inclined to make with it. I made 2 pans of soup yesterday in the early hours and polished off the remains of one of them in the early hours of this morning. I still have a pan of cauliflower cheese soup but it is definitely lacking something flavour wise.
Doctor has just rung me and I have some antibiotics waiting for me in the pharmacy. That was very efficient and helpful. Steve is just leaving to pick them up and hopefully I will avoid another hospital stay.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx10 -
Morning, hugs if you need one.
Real autumn day, there is quite a breeze so hopefully the laundry will dry on the line. Changed the bed. Cleaner is due, so she will help me remake it.
DB is going to evergreens this afternoon, so I will see if the lamp has been rewired and call at Morrison for a few bits for my friend across the road. I will also nip into the age concern shop with some books.
No idea whats for supper tonight, might just do egg and wedges with some beans, we can use up the left over beans for lunch tomorrow.8 -
Good morning
Damp and grey here, I think we're meant to have rain later🌧
The only things I need to do today are give blood and take the car to the garage.
Didn't do the ironing yesterday so may tackle it later.
Have a good day x8
