I have been taking anti depressants (Citalopram) for 6 days and since starting them my teeth are killing me when i chew on food or just my teeth biting together. There is nothing wrong with my teeth as been to dentist loads recently!
Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything i could get to help?

Have you checked the leaflet with your meds to see if there could be such a side effect?
If you have not been to the dentist in the past six days it could be them, or it could be a sinus problem (depending on what the pain is like)?
You really need to speak to a pharmacist or your GP.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Whooa here's a question! I had to look it up in my book of medicines!!
Reading through the possible side effects of Citalopram, it's easily possible that they could be mucking up your feeling in your mouth.
Either directly (Migraine is a side effect, which means that it could easily be affecting the nerves around your face and just making them fire off and make things feel uncomfortable even though everything is OK) or indirectly: they can increase anxiety, and give abnormal dreams, both of which might cause you to grind your teeth at night which would make them feel very tender throughout the day if you do it excessively.
I would guess it's the latter (tooth grinding) with the symptoms you describe.
If it doesn't improve, I would get back to the Dr, as they're obviously not agreeing with you.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
i've been on citalopram for over a year, and it hasn't caused me any pain, but there is a long lift of possible side effects. so i would poss go to dentist to get teeth checked if you havent been for a while, then go back to your gpenjoy life, we only get one chance at it:)0

virtually every side effect has been described for most medication. Its very difficult to prove cause and effect though...0

I think you need advice from your GP. Your GP will have told you that certain side effects are common for the first 1-2 weeks but then can carry on after that for a further 2 weeks. Even then, insomnia can continue longer.
Worth noting that swelling of the mouth is an allergic reaction to Citalopram. It could be that. Bleeding in the mouth can also occur.
Also, worth noting that they are NOT common side effects and the instructions state you should consult your GP. They could lower your dose until you are used to them (after the first 2-4 weeks) and then raise your dosage or they could look for a different type of SSRI.
It could be the migraines or grinding as Toothsmith said. Headaches in general are common in these. I was on them and I got a lot of aches and pains. I seem to recall some slight acheing in my gums but it was minor and didn't last like yours.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
