Moved home and between suppliers

I've just moved home and my current electricity company have said I cannot take my existing contract with me and have cancelled the contract. I also have gas in new home so again without a decent contact. So am I right in thinking I just find new suppliers at the new mad prices? :( Everywhere I look it tells you not to take up new contracts as you won't be on the capped rate. Obviously the last owners had suppliers and I'm temporarily under those.

Help!!

    Don't switch.
Your temporary suppliers will put you on their deemed tariff, which will be Ofgem price-capped. Just stay weith that contract until the spring, unless you would rather pay more now for a longer fix.

As soon as you move in read the meters and take photos. You are deemed to be in a contract with whichever supplier(s) supplied the previous occupier. Contact the supplier(s), open account(s), give them the meter readings. Insist they put you on their Standard Variable Tariff. This is the best deal at the moment because it is set at the OFGEM cap, any other tariff will be more expensive. Do not even think of changing supplier.
  • ^^ what they said.

Also (if not already done so), don't forget to provide final meter readings to the supplier at you previous address in order to ensure an accurate final bill..
