New Prices - Which Heating is now Cheaper - Electric or Gas
Now that energy prices are so high, have we reached the stage where electric heating etc is now cheaper than using gas?
AND, if we do get to that stage, what happens to all the EPC inspections which mark down a property with electric heating due to cost of use?

No. Absolutely nowhere close - compare the cost per kWh on the tariffs available currently and you'll still find gas is significantly cheaper.coupleuk said:Now that energy prices are so high, have we reached the stage where electric heating etc is now cheaper than using gas?0 -
The problem is that a lot of electricity is generated by gas-fired power stations so if gas prices go up then electricity prices go up.Reed0

There are a couple of advantages of electric heating and as prices of Gas increase make it more appealing, but purely on a straight comparsion Gas is still considerably cheaper to heat a home.
Electric can be generated at home, so it does give you the ability to offset certain costs.
Also electric is 100% efficient,. So in theory 2kwh in gives you 2kw of heating.
Less maintence and upfront costs, a gas boiler can set you back over £2k and last approx 15 years, it will need annual servicing at approx £50 and then any repairs over its lifetime. Electric systems are less maintence and can be bought up front for a fraction of a Gas boiler, a basic convector heater 2kw can be picked up for less than £30. So over the lifetime when you add the total cost not just the unit rates that gap is getting narrower.1 -
