Partial settlement and credit files

Hi all,
After six long years my defaults have disappeared from my credit file.
I am contemplating making a partial settlement on the debts, but am worried that making such a settlement would mean that the defaulted debts would suddenly be visible again on my credit file. Can someone tell me if this is so?
