Microsoft Excel Add-ins

I wonder if anyone can throw light on an issue I have with Excel add-ins?

I am using a fully licensed copy of Microsoft Office 2016 Home and Business edition and have recently been having a problem using the Excel add-in function. This has occurred I believe shortly after last month's Windows update Patch Tuesday although I cannot be certain that the update caused the issue.

Basically my worksheets cannot load the different add-in functions which I have downloaded from the Microsoft store. The one I use mainly is called Vital Tax which I use for MTD VAT return purposes, but I have eliminated that particular add-in as being the problem as it also applies to any other add-ins I try to load.

The funny thing is, if I sign out and use my Local Account, they work fine. Similarly if I use Excel in Microsoft Edge browser, again there is no problem.

I can only guess that there is a setting on my main administrator account that has changed recently and which is causing the issue.

It's not a big problem as I have a workaround by using my Local account, but I would very much like to get to the bottom of it and would welcome any tips or observations.

I might add that I have used Microsoft support and on this occasion they have not really covered themselves in glory by offering any worthwhile solutions. Not knocking them as in the past they have been extremely helpful when I have had issues, normally post Patch Tuesday update time.

  • Sorry not up to date do still working on 2007!!
    However there are quite a few comments on (similar) subject given by a goggle search such as https://superuser.com/questions/1103770/excel-add-ins-not-loading-since-july-2016-office-update. Now that might not be your problem of course but pending up to date users help could be worth a read as it does seem to have some similarities as to Trust.
    Search used was "excel 2016 add in problem"



  • Many thanks for the useful link which I had not seen before. I think it provides the clue that it's all to do with "trusted locations".

    Although I might add that I had another session with Microsoft support chat line yesterday evening, and the problem was beyond the tier one team who tried to help. I declined the offer of tier two help because of time constraints. If I discover the solution, I will post on here to help anyone else who may come across the same issue.
