'Never buy private' is an over reaction. For example, when my neighbour died his wife didn't drive and the offers from dealers for a 3 year old, low mileage car were insulting. Their son handled the sale and got thousands more than offered by the trade, but still sold at less than the trade wanted for similar vehicles.
