Adding headboard to a bedframe without headboard holes - to save throwing away both!

Hi everyone,
I am trying to attach a headboard like this one (https://www.argos.co.uk/product/5279609?clickPR=plp:1:8)

Have the screws/bolts for the headboard. But what to add to the bed frame, like a nut or something, to receive the bolts?

Thanks

You need to show as actual picture of the fixings of the headboard.

It might be easier to attach the headboard to the wall.

  • I've just looked on your links ..
trying to do that would actually ruin a fine bed . It is not meant for a headboard, which would look awful if you did what you are thinking of doing . Totally impractical .
I would say that if you want to keep it , then you should move it against the wall .
If not and you want a bed with a headboard , then you'd be be best off selling and buying a new bed . .

    Hiya thank you.
Am not sure why you think it will ruin the bed or the look. The mattress that is on this bed is a Hypnos 25+ cm thick mattress - it completely hides the raised edges. It does not look super pretty but have been using it like this for a while now in the spare room and it looks acceptable.

The bed is against a wall, but a wall is not a headboard because its colder (brick wall), plus resting back against the wall will stain the paintwork with skin grease. For the same reason, I dont like screwing stuff into the walls as much as possible so dont want to use a wall mounted head board. But that will mean I will have to buy one anyway... Am just looking for ways to use things that I already have - this day bed (mattresses are in poor condition and going to dump), headboard and mattress is from a bed that we had (it broke and ended up in the dump but I saved the headboard and mattress).

Its not just about saving money or that we cannot afford to buy another double bed, but we really dont like throwing things away if we can avoid it.

A wall can be filled very easily with polyfilla that is not expensive.  It's what walls are for.

I'd probably sell both on ebay and buy a proper bed also on ebay.  The Brimnes will sell well, I imagine, but it probably won't take well to being drilled.  Ikea stuff is almost always chipboard and if it isn't a pre-formed hole, it doesn't work well.  Believe me, I've bought, owned, erected more Ikea furniture than anyone else here.

There are plenty of strong glue on the market if you want to fit the headboard permanently to the bed base.  Gorilla Glue for example.  If you want to be able to remove it, you will need to get coach bolts or similar and drill the back of the base to feed them through.

My father once built a matching customised shelving unit from bargain corner Ikea units (think it was either that or divorce as he kept buying them without a clear goal in mind).
Ikea seems to be interchangeable to some extent with other similar ikea frames, but as Doozergirl says, I wouldn't try adapting it to fit.
Could you not sell one or the other and buy a replacement gorcthevone you're looking to sell than fit 2 items that don't fit together?

I think the sturdiest might be to attach an extension to the headboard to extend down to the floor and then fasten that extension to the bed.
