USB Port repaired in March now broken - can I ask for it to be repaired again free of charge
Looking for some advice please.
I have an Asus Transformer Mini T102HA tablet. In March this year I had the micro usb charging port repaired as it would only charge if the cable was held awkwardly at an odd angle. I paid £84 on my Visa Credit Card via PayPal. Initially I was happy with the repair.
Unfortunately the charging port now has the same problem as before. It will only charge if the cable is held at a certain angle. I have been really careful to only use a high quality cable and have not forced the cable in any way. I am quite disappointed that the repair has failed after such a short period of time.
I am planning on writing an email to the company letting them know that the repair has failed but I would like to know if I have any rights with regards to getting the port repaired again or a refund?
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.Comments

Have you tried with a known good cable? My experience with micro USB is that it's the cables that snuff it, not the ports (generally speaking) and that seems to be regardless of the quality of the cable.MrsLewis2000 said:Hello,

That's my experience too. I bought some cheap cables and within a short time I experienced problems charging some devices. Using the manufacturer cable again sorted it.

Hi, I don't have the original manufacturers cable but have bought some very high quality ones which work well with all my other devices. As the port had recently been repaired, I was very careful to use only these new cables and to use them gently rather than forcing into the socket.

Sadly Asus can perfectly reasonably say the cables are not OEM and so they need not be interested in dealing with this furtherMrsLewis2000 said:Hi, I don't have the original manufacturers cable but have bought some very high quality ones which work well with all my other devices. So they still work well in the other devices? And these devices are mobile (i.e not something stuck on a desk that doesn't move around)?MrsLewis2000 said:Hi, I don't have the original manufacturers cable but have bought some very high quality ones which work well with all my other devices. Did they ever work well in the tablet?0 -
Yes they work in my kindle, kobo e-reader, mobile phone. They worked fine when the tablet was initially repaired. It just stopped working the other day.ItsComingRome said:

Speak to the repairer, see what they say and let us know the outcome.0

Well then, the problem you have is that you paid via PayPal so the chance to do anything via them has long sailed (and as it was technically repaired just fine you wouldn't be covered if it went wrong weeks after receipt.)MrsLewis2000 said:

That leaves you with Consumer Rights. But as it's over 6 months old you may well be asked for an independent report.
I'm not sure I could justify it given how cheap a device it is, even if they do fix it, I suspect it'll just fail again. But that's up to you.0 -
Thank you for all your replies. I've written an email to the repairer but have not received a reply as yet. Don't hold out much hope to be honest. Lesson learned. It wasn't a cheap tablet when I bought it, (at least not to me) it's running Windows 10 and really useful but I guess all good things must come to an end
