Mind the gap - switched energy supplier, in credit and awaiting final bill when igloo went bust.

So, successfully switched energy supplier from Igloo to EON Next on 24th October and was £600 in credit and awaiting final bill from igloo which was a matter of £50 leaving £550 credit to be refunded. In the meantime whilst awaiting my final bill and refund, they go bust. Phone lines are recordings saying they have ceased trading and no one to talk to. Tried OFGEM who don't want to know and send a cut and pasted explanation specific to those who were still igloo customers at time of going bust and are protected. Not relevant to my situation. What can I do, £550 is a lot of money to me, who can I chase, who should I try and get my money back from of has it gone for good?

MY SD is in a similar situation with Avro- your money is safe, but with so many people & companies affected, it's just waiting game until it all gets sorted. Not ideal though I know1

I'm afraid you have no choice but to await contact from whichever supplier is taking on Igloo's customers. They will then be responsible for refunding you the credit balance from your closed account.1

By chance the receivers have appointed the company I switched to.(Eon Next) I wonder if this will make a difference, or if I need to contact the receivers for igloo and take it up with them.0

No you just wait as all this takes time for credit to be transferred , many in the same boat .

It is probably nothing to do with the Receiver. Earlier reports said The credit money is ring fenced and a company will be appointed to deal with refunds.

We'll look to appoint a supplier who will pay back money owed to you that's outstanding from a closed account.

Sheramber thank you but I think this info is for those still with igloo when they went bust. I had already left so do not get the assurances from the OFGEM info as I do not fit their circumstances0

From that page:Mr_Kaye said:Sheramber thank you but I think this info is for those still with igloo when they went bust. I had already left so do not get the assurances from the OFGEM info as I do not fit their circumstances"I recently closed my account. Will I get back the credit I’m owed?
We’ll try to appoint a new supplier who will refund money that's outstanding on closed accounts.
Costs for the energy you have used but have not yet had a bill for will be deducted from your account balance. "
