Barclays Account/death of husband

Hi everyone

Please could you advise me. My friend lives in Florida and her husband has sadly died. He has a very large sum of money in a Barclays account here in the UK. She is American and he was born here but lived in America for many years.

She is the executor and benefactor of his Will but she is unsure as to how she accesses these funds. She has the Will and death certificate.

Could someone help please?

Just to start you off, if it was in this country they'd probably need probate to access an account with a large amount of money in it. Is there an American equivalent?

You could help by calling Barclays (bereavement team?) and asking them on her behalf what they need to get things started.
  • If the amount is under £30k probate will probably not be required.
