Many people on lower incomes have been helped to buy their own home, using schemes including:

  • Right to buy
  • Help to buy
  • Shared ownership

Researchers at the University of York need help with research on people’s experience of these schemes. We would like to talk to people on moderate incomes, which might be below £35,000 if you're single, or a combined household incomes of £65,000 or lower if a couple, who have used one of the schemes above, OR people on lower incomes who might have purchased not using any scheme at all and just bought on the open market

If this is you, we’d like to talk to you about how you made your decision to buy a property, your experiences of homeowning and how you have fared since your purchase. We would talk with you for up to an hour – whenever is convenient for you – on the phone or on Zoom.

Please find further information by clicking on this link to this project information sheet and this data privacy information sheet. If you are interested in talking to us please click the link to  let us know using this short form.  We will be in touch with you to answer any questions and set up a convenient time to talk.

THANK YOU! YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

It would be good if you could post again in a while to say if you are receiving any feedback.  Your update would also "bump" the question up the board so more people would see it.

OP, have you had people complete your short form?  It would be interesting to know.

  • Hi Thanks a lot for the messages above and to the people that have already contacted us and indicated their willingness to participate. We have had some good responses.

We are still looking for people who have bought via the Right to Buy- so if you bought your home from the council or a housing association as a sitting tenant please do get in touch as we'd love to hear about your experiences.

Also if you bought your home on the open market in a regular fashion , or via Help to Buy, we'd also still be pleased to hear from you. We probably have enough shared owners now, thank you.

Please click on the links in the original post to find out more information and to let us know you'd be interested in talking to us!

    Many thanks again.

It would be interesting to hear in a few days about the level of responses you have had.
  • HI there,

We still need to speak with homeowners for our research if you'd be willing to help us!?

Did you buy your home using the Right to Buy? Or perhaps the Help to Buy or just in the regular way on the open market? If you're on a moderate income and bought your home three years ago or more, do let us know!

Please find further information by clicking on this link to this project information sheet and this data privacy information sheet. If you are interested in talking to us please click the link to  let us know using this short form.  We will be in touch with you to answer any questions and set up a convenient time to talk.

    Many thanks,

    Alison

(PS. Thank you to the people who came forward already. We have enough shared owners now.)
