Dell laptop issues

We spent £2k on a new laptop last year. It's used for both business and personal things. When it arrived it was faulty and they replaced it. 6 months later (Jan this year) the W key stopped working. The keyboard was replaced at home by dell. Fast forward to now and its out of warranty, but again we have the same problem, the W key has stopped working again.
My thought is that it's a lot of money to spend on a laptop that only lasts for 15 months, surely that's not fit for purpose? Their response is that it's tough and it's out of warranty and we need to cough up to make any repairs.

Please does anyone know where we actually stand with this. Dell customer care is shocking. They've cut me off twice when I've rung to find out what needs to happen.

Odd that a W key stopped working twice. Could be something you are doing?

Business use would mean no consumer rights. UNLESS YOU LIE.

Replace the keyboard youirself or someone who can. It's usually very cheap and easy.

  • I totally agree that the odd that the W key has broken twice, the laptop gets very little use really. Was bought during lockdown to help with home schooling and a bit of business use - vat returns etc.
My point to dell is that there must be some sort of issue either with the keyboards or with the laptop itself for that key to go twice.

Or the child has been spending a lot of time playing online games rather than school stuff...

Just go onto Dells website and extend the warranty and then get it repaired
You will end up chasing your tail for ever trying to get any other outcome
