Don't use poison use traps or you could end up with dead rats stinking for weeks.

Or you could buy your son a ferret as an early birthday present. Guaranteed to work.

They like eating dog poo?Racky_Roo said:Recently had rats myself, agree they won't come out at the party but after that I'd get the council out or a pest control co to lay decent poison which won't harm other animals. You will have to pay but it's really effective and rats won't eat poison you buy yourselves if they can find a better food source elseware and believe me they will go quite far to get decent food. Not sure if you have a dog but dog poo is one of the fav's according to the pest control people I had round. You really do learn something new every day. Some thing more pleasant than others!0 -
And the ones that live in the sewers enjoy a bit of the human variety.LippyDoodle said:

Because they would be to scared to come out with all the movement and noise. Even some that get brave won't come if there's noise and a lot of movement. They are a prey animal and have lots of predators so their brains are wired up to take flight with the slightest chance of danger.Rosa_Damascena said:I have sympathy but don't understand why other posters are confident the rats won't intrude. If the decking isn't covered then surely any crumbs dropped will only make matters worse in the long run?

I think people may be making unjustified assumptions regarding the existence of ordure in the OP's garden.Might reconsider SaTURDay though....1
